Privacy
Short version: this site keeps your email only to tell you when the beta, the pre-order and the launch happen. No cookies, no ad trackers, nothing sold or shared. The app keeps your journals on your phone and counts a few things, anonymously.
Who runs this
Journey Shelf is an independent iPhone app. Its developer runs this website. Questions go to hello@journeyshelf.com.
What the waitlist keeps
Your email address, the language of the page, your answer to "where did you hear about us", the source tag in the link you followed (if any), the site that linked you here (its domain only), your country as the network reports it, and the time. Your IP address is not written to the list; Cloudflare, like any host, sees it while it delivers the page.
What visits leave behind
A count of page views per day, per language and per source tag: no cookies, no device identifiers, nothing that points to one visitor. Your browser remembers two things for the page: the language you chose, and, until you close the tab, the tag of the link you followed. If, after joining, you vote for the next map pack, one is added to that destination's count; the vote is not stored with your email.
The ten-minute test
If you take the short test, your answers are kept with the page language, the source tag, your country and the time. Your email is kept only if you type it in.
Why
To send at most three emails (beta opens, pre-order opens, launch day) and to learn which places people come from, so the developer spends time where it works.
Where it is stored
On Cloudflare, the company that hosts this site and its database. Cloudflare is based in the United States, and data may be stored there. Before any email is sent through an email service, that service will be named on this page.
How long
Until three months after launch, or until you ask for it to be deleted, whichever comes first.
Your choices
Reply to any email, or write to hello@journeyshelf.com, to leave the list, to see what is stored about you, or to have it deleted. Requests are answered within 30 days.
Children
This site is not meant for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.
Your journals in the app
Photos, words and routes stay on your phone (and, when the app syncs with iCloud, in your own iCloud). The developer has no server that stores them. Your location is used on the phone only and never uploaded. Photos are picked with the system's photo picker; when you save pages as pictures, the app asks only for permission to add photos, never to read your library.
What the app counts
Whether thirteen things happened and on which day, such as the first open, a journal made, the first stamp, or pages saved as pictures, with the app's version, the major iOS version, the interface language and the kind of device (phone, folding phone, iPad). Nothing from your journals: no photos, places, words or names; no device or install identifier; no tracking. The counts go to journeyshelf.com (Cloudflare) and are kept only as daily totals. The list of the thirteen is in the app's Settings, where counting can be turned off; anything not yet sent is then thrown away.
A destination you ask for
When you make a journal for a place without a map pack and pick the destination you would like a pack for, the app counts that choice: one of 34 destinations, or "other". The place name you write on the cover is not kept.
Pictures you share
When you send pages to Xiaohongshu, WeChat, Instagram, X or Facebook, the pictures and the caption go to that app through your phone, and that app's own rules apply from there. Journey Shelf contains no code from those services, and no third-party analytics or advertising code.
